Use it as your design program instead of Inventor with a full or student license, or use it with a student license and just as a convertor for STL files, it's up to you. If you are used to Inventor, Fusion feels very logical and has a quick learning curve. Fusion is an evolution on Inventor, and can import and work with STL files directly. Please take a look at Fusion and the A online control panel. The best way I found is to use "Mesh to solid" program, convert the file to 3Dm, and import it to inventor, no hassle, file ready to edit.
